The Company

With locations around the globe, RCS Logistics is one of the world’s leading logistics providers specializing in international air, ocean and land freight forwarding, supply chain management, 3PL, trucking transportation, distribution, customs brokerage, and other logistics solutions.

The Problem

 

In 2003, RCS's US operations was made up of 23 PCs and a single server.  Support for this small network was provided by a single IT resource who worked part time as needed.

 

 "We were poised for major growth, and we knew our IT infrastructure was going to need an upgrade to keep pace." says Brian Heaney, President of RCS.   Systems were running poorly, there was no remote access, and there was an old AS/400 in use.

 

In addition, RCS's e-mail system was an antiquiated POP3 solution and unable to properly synchronize with mobile devices. Given these problems, and the expansive growth RCS was expecting, the Logistic Carrier needed a more sustainable IT solution.

 

The Solution

After conducting a thorough Network Audit and IT business analysis, Strategic went to work.  All remote sites received dedicated servers, all configured in a hub-and-spoke manner to synchronize instantly with a completely new, state-of-the art data center in their JFK headquarters.  In addition, Strategic implemented InSITE One Managed IT Services.  

 

Today, Strategic supports more than 135 machines, ensuring proactive monitoring and support of RCS's network, including both local and offsite disaster recovery solutions so important to their business.  “They do backups and patches and keep us abreast of the health of our network,” Amanda says. “Our relationship has evolved, and we don’t have to worry about those kinds of things.”

 

RCS also looks to Strategic for IT consulting expertise, Brian notes, “If there’s something I need to get done, I can call them up and ask, ‘How do I do this?’  They’re my go-to resource for an expert opinion on how to proceed, no matter whether a given project is something we can do in-house, or whether it’s something we’ll need their help to implement.   Having them at our disposal is a real value-added benefit.”
